We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new pilot service to deliver peer-to-peer befriending to parent-carers in West Sussex whose children are undergoing or have recently undergone diagnosis. This new project is being developed and delivered with long-standing partners, Amaze, who run an equivalent service for parent-carers in Brighton & Hove.
Our first cohort of befrienders from Worthing are currently undergoing their training and we hope to start matching them with families in May & June. We then plan to train a second cohort of parents from Crawley in September.
More to follow very soon…!!
Our 2018 Impact Report detailing what we achieved for and learned from parent carers is now available to download from our Impact page.
The report shows the huge increase in demand for our service during 2018 and our plans to develop our service including the development of a new befriending service for parents of children undergoing diagnosis, extending the length of our training workshops and exploring ways in which we can support the emotional resilience and well-being of parent-carers in West Sussex.
We are delighted to welcome a number of new people who have joined the Reaching Families team over the course of the last few months. Three new trustees have joined our board – Maria Gilbert, a parent-carer and former Finance Director, who has become our Treasurer, Chris Jay, an experienced disability awareness trainer and Charlotte Linington, a Child & Family Worker who specialised working with families of children with SEND.
Two new staff have also joined our team, both parent-carers with invaluable life experience – Hannah Delmar-Addy, former midwife who has been appointed as an Outreach & Training Co-ordinator and Kirsty Lester, our new Administrator who is a trained accountant.A warm welcome to one and all!!
