A new conference facility recently opened at the Aldingbourne Country Centre near Chichester proved a fitting setting for the launch of the 2nd edition of our popular parent-carer guide, Making Sense of Adult Life, on Thursday, 1st November.
The 2nd edition contains up-to-date information on a host of subjects including mental health and employment and life skills. Commenting on the value of the book, Sue Livett, Managing Director of Aldingbourne said, “this is an essential resource which gives up to date, relevant and clear information in guiding and supporting young people as they become adults.”
Making Sense of Adult Life is a companion guide to another published by Reaching Families entitled Making Sense Of It All, which is designed for parents of children aged 0-14. Both books are available in hard copy and e-book format and available to download or order from our Guide page.
Both guides are edited by a professional editor and carer, Sue McMillan, who said of the new edition of Making Sense of Adult Life “We hope parents find this book as useful of Making Sense Of It All and wish them all the best in helping their young person to plan their future.”

We are marking the 10th anniversary by launching a new service to provide volunteer outreach and befriending to parent-carers across West Sussex.
As part of the development of this project we are pleased to welcome Rachel Fielding to the staff team. Rachel has joined as our new Volunteer Co-ordinator and will be working to recruit and support volunteers who will help us with a range of important work, including:-
We will be holding an induction training day on the 7th November at Dove Lodge in Littlehampton. Travel expenses will be reimburshed and food and refreshments provided. If you would be interested in attending this event please email Rachel Fielding at Rachel@reachingfamilies.org.uk or phone her on 07535 386687.
We are seeking a Treasurer to oversee the financial governance and management of the charity. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced financial manager who can help a rapidly growing organisation achieve financial sustainability and best practice in its financial management. If you are interested in this opportunity in the first instance please contact our Project Manager, Brian O’Hagan, for an informal chat about the role. You can reach him on 07939 192388 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
A huge thank you to everyone at The Vine in Tarring for supporting our recent Family Fun Day, 10th anniversary celebrations. Thanks to you we raised £472.45 on the day, with the promise of more to come!
Reaching Families have been commissioned by West Sussex Coastal Mind to deliver a number of one day training workshops on issues and subjects important to families of children with Autism and ADHD. Amongst the subjects we will be covering include introductory workshops on ADHD and Autism, understanding anxiety, understanding challenging behaviour and handling stress & building resilience. For further details on the current workshops please see the flyer on the top right.
We have now published iBook and Kindle versions of both our parent carer guides, Making Sense Of It All and Making Sense Of Adult Life. The new e-book editions are proving very popular with parents who enjoy reading on their ipad, tablet or e-reader. To download a digital edition of either book please visit the eBooks page.
